Research built from primary sources, not consensus

Competitive landscapes, market sizing and financial models, built from filings and audited accounts and delivered in days. Most engagements land a first version in three working days, with every figure traced to a document you can open yourself.

Figure 5 · Issue 01 SBI Mutual Fund scheme reports
Scatter plot of 93 SBI schemes. Active funds cluster on the 2 basis point rule. Passive funds sit below 0.5, and the two largest ETFs sit near 0.2.
Active funds sit on the 2 bps rule. The two largest ETFs hold 27% of SBI's assets and pay 0.20 bps.

Most market numbers get repeated, not checked. The Basis Point builds them from company filings, regulatory disclosures and audited accounts, which means going and reading the documents instead of buying a database. That is more work per figure, and it still moves faster than the process it replaces: one analyst on the filings, no layers of review to sit through, so a first version reaches you inside a week.

RESEARCH REPORT Issue 01  ·  August 2026

INR 1,114 crore gap in India's financial literacy spending

India's mutual fund industry funds investor education through a levy on scheme net assets, set at 2 basis points. Measured scheme by scheme across three AMCs covering 39% of industry assets, the rate actually being paid is 1.4 to 1.8 bps, because passive schemes pay a fraction of what active ones do. AMFI ended FY25 holding ₹1,114 crore of the pool unspent. Close to 90% of what it did spend went on media campaigns.

Capabilities

What we do

The method travels across sectors. If the underlying data sits in filings, disclosures or audited accounts, it can be assembled into something you can take to a decision.

01

Market research reports

Sector studies covering how a market actually works: who the participants are, how the economics run, and where it is heading.

02

Competitive landscapes

Player mapping from primary filings, covering business models, pricing, positioning and where the whitespace sits.

03

Market sizing

Bottom-up sizing with the assumptions left visible, built to hold up in a boardroom or an investor meeting.

04

Financial modelling

Working models with live assumptions, scenario ranges and comparable-based valuation.

Sectors covered

Sector expertise is built per engagement. The method stays the same throughout: primary sources, visible assumptions, figures you can trace. Read the methodology.

Turnaround

Answers in days, not the usual weeks

Most of a research timeline is not research. It is the work moving between an associate, a manager and a partner, and waiting in each queue. Here one analyst reads the filings, builds the model and defends the numbers, so the calendar shrinks while the method stays put. These are delivery commitments, not estimates: the date goes in the written scope before you commit.
