INR 1,114 crore gap in India's financial literacy spending
India's mutual fund industry funds investor education through a levy on scheme net assets, set at 2 basis points. Measured scheme by scheme across three AMCs covering 39% of industry assets, the rate actually being paid is 1.4 to 1.8 bps, because passive schemes pay a fraction of what active ones do. AMFI ended FY25 holding ₹1,114 crore of the pool unspent. Close to 90% of what it did spend went on media campaigns.
